Carol Seminara

Art as a language

Carol sees painting as a powerful and evocative language and herself as a writer with many stories to tell. For her, art became not just an expression, but a journey.

From an early age, she was always creating—painting, drawing, and crafting. In college, she contributed cartoons to the student newspaper and designed her own greeting cards and wrapping paper. There isn’t a craft she hasn’t tried at least once, but her creative path took a new turn when she received a set of Prismacolor pencils—a gift that rekindled her love for drawing. For the first time, she felt she had access to “real” art supplies, and they opened up new possibilities.

About a decade ago, she transitioned to water media, drawn to the immediacy of watercolor and its unique balance between spontaneity and control. Since then, she has studied with several acclaimed watercolor artists, both in-person and online, including Brad Braun, Susy Short, Liz Steel, and Sheri Blaukopf. She counts Matisse as her greatest artistic influence and muse.

Her work has been recognized by the DK Art Show andSale and the juried exhibition of the Guadalupe Watercolor Group. Her paintings are frequently exhibited at the Fredericksburg Theater Company, the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center and the San Antonio Art League and Museum.

Her artistic style leans toward an outsider sensibility, with vibrant, saturated colors that challenge the delicate subtlety often associated with watercolor. While she gravitates toward still life, her interpretations frequently include windows, furniture, Italian or Mexican pottery, and the occasional cat or cow.

At the heart of her work is a simple wish: to communicate joy. She hopes her paintings bring a smile to those who view them.
