Sheila Sattler Kale creates portraits of people, pets, or places that capture the spirit of the
individual and convey the feelings in a way that photography cannot. “The beauty and emotional quality of a piece of art grows into the fiber of the people who live with it. It becomes a legacy to them,” she says.
Sheila studied with impressionist artist Dick Turner for three years and later with superrealist John McClusky, for 14 years. Her work falls somewhere in between.
For many years, she sold her work through the Sol Del Rio Art Gallery in San Antonio. Then around
15 years into her painting career, she sensed a calling to open and manage a Christian bookstore.
After 27 years the bookstore closed its doors. As she was talking to someone about their
retirement, she reminded them of a verse from scripture that says one’s calling is irrevocable.
She says, “I felt a warm tingling l as I realized the words were for me also. I’m humbled and
delighted to share my first love, responding to the beauty and dignity of each of God’s creation.”
